The Duties of the Office

  • A prosecutor’s duty is not to convict but to see that justice is served.  Each day, our office strives to fulfill this duty.

  • We represent the State of Texas and victims of crimes in all criminal cases in the District Court, County Court-at-Law, and Justice Courts—Class B misdemeanors and above.

  • We prosecute felonies, misdemeanors, and juvenile crimes.

  • We work with law enforcement in the investigation of criminal cases.

  • We present cases to the Grand Jury.

  • We pursue and defend appeals in criminal and civil matters.

  • We seek protective orders and coordinate assistance for victims of domestic violence.

  • We represent the best interests of children in Child Protective Services cases and of the elderly in Adult Protective Services cases.

  • We seek court-ordered hospital commitments for the mentally ill.

  • We litigate bond forfeiture cases on behalf of the County and asset forfeiture cases on behalf of the State and law enforcement.

  • We prosecute hot check cases.

  • We bring suit on behalf of the County.

  • We provide legal advice to the Commissioners Court and to other elected officials.

  • We investigate public integrity offenses.

  • We handle public information requests.

  • We contribute to the overall safety and well-being of our County through community service efforts.
