The Duties of the Office
A prosecutor’s duty is not to convict but to see that justice is served. Each day, our office strives to fulfill this duty.
We represent the State of Texas and victims of crimes in all criminal cases in the District Court, County Court-at-Law, and Justice Courts—Class B misdemeanors and above.
We prosecute felonies, misdemeanors, and juvenile crimes.
We work with law enforcement in the investigation of criminal cases.
We present cases to the Grand Jury.
We pursue and defend appeals in criminal and civil matters.
We seek protective orders and coordinate assistance for victims of domestic violence.
We represent the best interests of children in Child Protective Services cases and of the elderly in Adult Protective Services cases.
We seek court-ordered hospital commitments for the mentally ill.
We litigate bond forfeiture cases on behalf of the County and asset forfeiture cases on behalf of the State and law enforcement.
We prosecute hot check cases.
We bring suit on behalf of the County.
We provide legal advice to the Commissioners Court and to other elected officials.
We investigate public integrity offenses.
We handle public information requests.
We contribute to the overall safety and well-being of our County through community service efforts.
